Case Study: How a Windsor Plumbing Company Stopped Missing After-Hours Calls

Published 2026-06-296 min readWeBuild Technology Inc.

This is a live deployment, not a hypothetical. Names are kept simple, but the system described is answering real calls for a real plumbing company in Windsor, Ontario today.

The problem

Like every plumbing company, our client's highest-value calls โ€” burst pipes, flooded basements, no-hot-water emergencies โ€” arrive after hours. Before the pilot, those calls went to voicemail. Homeowners with water spreading across the floor don't leave voicemails; they call the next plumber on Google. The owner knew jobs were leaking away every week, but hiring after-hours phone staff made no financial sense.

The build

We deployed Inora AI, our voice receptionist, scripted specifically for plumbing: it answers on the first ring, identifies whether the call is an emergency or routine, and behaves differently for each.

  • Emergency path: capture name, phone, exact address; confirm the caller is inside the Windsor-Essex service area; flag as urgent; notify the owner immediately with a summary.
  • Routine path: answer common pricing and availability questions, book the job into an open slot, send a confirmation text.

The pipeline behind it

The voice agent is only half the system. When each call ends, an automation pipeline takes over: the call's structured data โ€” name, phone, address, issue type, urgency, booking โ€” flows through a webhook into our workflow engine, which writes a clean row into the company's lead sheet and pushes a notification to the owner's phone. No manual data entry, no "who called last night?"

What the owner sees now

  • Every after-hours call answered โ€” zero voicemails since launch
  • Emergencies flagged in real time, with address and details captured before he even calls back
  • A clean lead log โ€” every caller, every request, every booking in one sheet
  • Multilingual coverage โ€” the agent handles English, Punjabi and Hindi callers naturally, which matters in Windsor's market

What we learned

Two things separate a demo from a production system. First, the script is the product โ€” confirming spellings, repeating phone numbers back, and knowing when to end the call politely matter more than the underlying model. Second, data handoff must be bulletproof โ€” a booked job that never reaches the owner's sheet is a failed call, so the automation pipeline gets engineered and tested as seriously as the voice agent itself.
